2 MILE – Long Distance running is all about being able to come up with a plan of
action and execute in a well-organized and efficient manner. An important aspect of
being a good leader is the ability to manage yourself as well as your team. A
program in this category would deal with the logistics of guiding a group of people
or being able to organize and manage yourself and others when prompted with a
task or event. This includes, but is not limited to, programs related to budgeting,
event planning, etc.
SHOT PUT – When competing in shot put, it is vital to the safety of others to make
everyone aware that you are about to launch. When there is a lack of
communication, issues are likely to arise. Likewise, all it takes to bring a team down
is a lack of communication. Programs in this event include, but are not limited to,
interpersonal interaction, relationship building, conflict resolving, methods for
successful advertising, etc.
POLE VAULT – In pole vault, an athlete literally raises the bar for him or herself. This
is also true about great leaders. Self Improvement is an essential aspect of being a
successful, capable leader. Pushing oneself out of their comfort zone and essentially
raising the bar can lead to growth. Programs in this category include, but are not
limited to, self confidence, self-esteem, time management, stress relief, etc.
LONG JUMP – During the long jump, you put your all into seeing how far you can
leap forward. Paying it forward is an important quality in a leader. Programs in this
category should focus on service and reaching out to better the community.
4 x 4 RELAY – In a relay, working as a team and knowing your team members is
essential. You need all athletes to work together in order to cross the finish line first.
This category is all about embracing the diversity of different people coming
together. Programs should encompass the principles of inclusiveness and embracing
diversity within a team and community.
